Copyright ownership is not transferred to IJSL or to the publisher as a condition of publication.

1. Copyright Ownership

Copyright in articles published by IJSL remains with the author(s), unless copyright is held by another legitimate rights holder under applicable law or contractual arrangements.

Authors retain their rights to use, distribute, reproduce, adapt, and incorporate their published work into subsequent scholarly or educational activities in accordance with the applicable license and relevant legal requirements.

IJSL does not require authors to assign exclusive copyright or exclusive commercial rights to the journal or publisher.

2. Right of First Publication

Authors grant IJSL the non-exclusive right of first publication.

This authorization permits IJSL and CV Aksara Sarana Utama, Indonesia to:

  • publish the article as part of the journal;

  • identify IJSL as the original publisher;

  • reproduce and distribute the article through the journal's publishing infrastructure;

  • register and maintain relevant publication metadata;

  • assign or register a DOI or other persistent identifier where applicable;

  • preserve and archive the scholarly record; and

  • provide article metadata and content to appropriate indexing, discovery, preservation, and scholarly communication services.

These rights are non-exclusive and do not transfer ownership of copyright from the author(s).

3. Creative Commons License

Unless otherwise clearly indicated, scholarly articles published in IJSL are licensed under the Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 International License (CC BY 4.0).

Under CC BY 4.0, users may share and adapt the licensed material for any purpose, including commercial purposes, provided that the requirements of the license are fulfilled.

The license allows users to:

  • copy and redistribute the material in any medium or format;

  • remix, transform, and adapt the material; and

  • build upon the published work.

The journal does not impose additional restrictions that contradict or limit the rights granted under CC BY 4.0.

4. Attribution Requirements

Reuse of material licensed under CC BY 4.0 must provide appropriate attribution.

Where reasonably possible, attribution should identify:

  • the author(s);

  • the title of the article;

  • Indonesian Journal of Socio-Cultural Learning (IJSL) as the original publication;

  • relevant publication details;

  • the DOI or permanent link to the original article, where available;

  • the applicable CC BY 4.0 license; and

  • whether the material has been modified or adapted.

Attribution must not imply that the original author(s), IJSL, or the publisher endorse a subsequent adaptation, interpretation, organization, product, or use unless such endorsement has been explicitly provided.

5. Adaptation and Reuse

The CC BY 4.0 license permits adaptations, translations, derivative works, educational use, inclusion in other scholarly publications, and other forms of lawful reuse.

Users who modify or adapt IJSL material must clearly indicate that changes have been made and must not present the modified version as though it were an unchanged reproduction of the original publication.

Reuse does not require separate permission from IJSL where the proposed use is already permitted under the applicable license.

6. Third-Party Material

The CC BY 4.0 license applying to an IJSL article does not automatically apply to third-party material contained within the article when that material is subject to separate copyright or licensing conditions.

Third-party material may include:

  • photographs;

  • artworks;

  • illustrations;

  • maps;

  • figures;

  • tables;

  • research instruments;

  • archival documents;

  • extensive quotations; or

  • other copyrighted material owned by another party.

Where such material is not covered by the article's CC BY 4.0 license, its copyright status or applicable restriction should be clearly indicated in the article, caption, note, acknowledgment, or other appropriate location.

Users are responsible for determining whether additional permission is required before reusing third-party material.

7. Author Responsibility for Permissions

Authors are responsible for ensuring that materials included in their manuscripts may lawfully be published.

Where permission is required for the reproduction or adaptation of copyrighted material, authors must obtain the necessary authorization before publication.

Authors must provide appropriate attribution and comply with any conditions imposed by the relevant rights holder.

The acceptance of a manuscript by IJSL does not transfer responsibility for unauthorized third-party material from the author(s) to the journal or publisher.

8. Previously Published Author Material

Where authors reuse material from their own previous publications, they remain responsible for:

  • appropriately citing the original publication;

  • identifying reproduced or adapted material;

  • complying with the license governing the earlier publication; and

  • obtaining permission where required.

Reuse of previously published material must also comply with IJSL's Plagiarism and Similarity Policy.

9. Copyright and Open Access

Copyright ownership and open access are related but distinct matters.

This Copyright Notice defines ownership and reuse rights associated with published articles. Conditions concerning immediate reader access, embargoes, repository deposit, and other aspects of accessibility are governed separately by IJSL's Open Access Policy.

The copyright terms stated here must be interpreted consistently with the open license applied to IJSL publications.

Authors remain responsible for determining whether AI-assisted text, images, figures, or other materials included in a submission can lawfully be published and licensed.

The use of an artificial intelligence system does not guarantee that generated material is free from copyright, intellectual property, privacy, or other third-party rights.

Requirements concerning the disclosure and responsible use of artificial intelligence are governed by IJSL's Generative AI Policy.
